Dr. Elizabeth Yates Bids Farewell to Kresge Eye Institute and Joins Normandy Optical

Renowned Kresge Eye Institute Optometrist and medical contact lens specialist Dr. Elizabeth Yates has just fulfilled a long-time dream of starting her own practice by joining forces with Normandy Optical. She'll now be partnering with Optometrists Dr. Gerald Blazius & Dr. Thomas Koehler to expand her patient outreach by accepting more types of insurance and performing an extensively broader array of medical procedures.

For Dr. Yates' Kresge patients, the decision represents the end of an era, one that began more than 17 years ago when she started a completely new department, titled "Well Eye Care". Under her direction as the department's medical director, new locations sprouted at Sinai Grace hospital, Dearborn Oakwood and even in Troy at the Wayne State University Physician Group headquarters.

Well Eye Care offered not only routine dilated eye exams for glasses & soft contacts but also fittings for rigid gas-permeable contact lenses, a specialty of Dr. Yates that brought much attention. It's reputation as a difficult and uncommonly practiced art placed her in a group of elite optometrists willing to serve patients suffering from the most debilitating corneal diseases such as Keratoconus.

Dr Yates says she is excited about starting a new practice because it gives her the ability to accept nearly ALL insurances including medical so that no one is turned away. In addition, optometrists at Normandy have the ability to performing a variety medical procedures so that patients can be treated in one visit instead of many after being referred to a second and third visit with separate doctors.

Now Dr. Yates brings her expertise to Normandy Optical, with three current locations and plans to expand. You can set an appointment with Dr. Yates by calling any of the following locations:

  5. When other treatment options have failed, you may need to undergo a surgical procedure to cure your glaucoma. If you have an open-angle glaucoma, for example, your surgeon will perform a procedure called argon laser trabeculoplasty.
